Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 – Steps to Install Gingerbread 2.3.5 XXJVT Firmware

Hold your breath as another update arrives this time in the form of Gingerbread 2.3.5 which is dubbed as XXJVT which is the successor version of XXJVS 2.3.5. It was last time when we saw on how you can apply the update of Gingerbread 2.3.5 but unfortunately most of the users faced some issues like force close errors and also the issues pertaining to the battery life. Since the firmware has just arrived and we thought to right away come up with the article so that you can experience one more FIRST from us to you from Android Advices rather than taking time in knowing the firmware enhancements at our end. So, let’s get started and see on how you can easily apply this all new Gingerbread release from the Samsung.

Please note that this firmware update which we will be seeing is not an official release from the Samsung, so it’s not recommended to use the KIES as a tool to backup all your data as this XXJVT 2.3.5 firmware as after the firmware update, it may or may not support the KIES tool. You can make use of other tips which we have mentioned to backup all your data. Also, there is no ETA on exactly when this update will be pushed via KIES tool but as soon as this update arrives, we will cover that one as well if at all there are any changes.

For your simplicity we have broken this article into different pages wherein in this page you will see the list of enhancements which this firmware comes along, in the next page you will find the list of pre requisites which you need to follow and then after that you will find the procedure to apply the update on your Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 phone. Applying this firmware update in no manner will be rooting the device, so there is no fear of losing the warranty. Special instructions to users on Custom ROM:

  • Just in case if you are on the custom ROM like Simply Honey, Extra Ordinary, Amestris or any other custom ROM then you will have to  first turn Off the phone and then you will have to enter into the recovery mode. The recovery mode can be entered by pressing  Volume UP on Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button.

Please note that if you are using any other kernels apart from the default ones or if you are using the Voodoo kernels then in the recovery mode you will have to select the “advanced” tools and then you will have to disable the Voodoo options if at all if there are any. Alternatively, to get the best battery life, you can also clear the battery stats which too will be there in the advanced tools.

  • Upon getting into the recovery mode, you will have to select options Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition after which you need to reboot your device by selecting reboot system now after which all the cache files will get deleted. So, once you are done with the above procedure you are now all set to proceed with the instructions to proceed to the next page where we have listed all the pre requisites one has to follow before proceeding to the firmware update.

Pre Upgrade Instructions:

  • So, before proceeding you need to backup all the data from  the below mentioned tips and methods and NOT FROM KIES as if you use KIES it will backup in the .SPB format which may or may not be compatible with your phone which will be powered with the new firmware which is XXJVT 2.3.5. Also, the data which you will have to backup are SMS, Contacts, Call LOG, Images, Songs and Videos etc. Also, additionally you will also have to manually note down the APN Settings so that the same can be

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
ContactsSync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Now, after this you will have to ensure that the phone is charged to a minimum of 70% plus so as to just ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the process of firmware update.
  • You should have the ADMIN privileges along with the full access of the USB Read / Write access so that all the data can be read / written from / to the phone. Before proceeding close the softwares like KIES / Antivirus Suites / Firewall tools completely so as to avoid from firmware update failure message.
  • Please note that this applicable is only applicable for all the users of Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 only, this update should not be applied to any other phones apart from this even if they have similar phone model numbers like I9000B or I9000T etc.

So, let’s proceed with the instructions along with the enhancements which come along with this version of firmware update.

Procedure to update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 with Gingerbread XXJVT 2.3.5:

  • First up download the Gingerbread 2.3.5 XXJVT Firmware Zip file which contains all the ingredients in your computer and then you need to extract he same in your computer. Please note that in the process of unzipping, you will be prompted to enter the password. Enter the password as “androidadvices.com” without the inverted comas.

 

  • Once you are done with the extraction, you will have to now match with the extracted files which are mentioned in the below screen capture. Please note that if at all if there are any files which are missing then you will have to again re download and unzip the same from the above mentioned link.

 

  • So, now considering the fact you have followed the list of pre requisites and also the above mentioned check, you now need to turn Off your phone and need to open the Odin flash tool in your computer.

 

  • Now after this you will have to turn your mobile ON in the download mode. The download mode can be entered by pressing down on Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button . Just in case if the device boots in the normal mode then you will have to again try the process of entering into the download mode. Please note that it’s not recommended to proceed if you are not entering into the download mode.

 

  • Once you enter into the download mode, you now need to connect the phone with the computer using the USB cable which you got at the time of purchase. Now, once you have successfully connected the phone you will see that the ID: COM section will turn yellow which will mean that all the drivers which are required for the firmware update has been successfully updated and you are now ready to proceed to the firmware update.

 

  • Up next select files in Odin as per the below mentioned manner in the corresponding options.

  • Now, after selecting the files, check with the same and click on the “Start” tab to start the process of firmware update. As soon as you click on the “Start” you will see that the process of the firmware update begins after which you will have to wait till the firmware updates gets done. In the process of firmware update ensure that you are not interrupting the process of firmware update or else you may face issues like phone not turning ON.

 

  • So, once the firmware update is done, you will see that the phone will be re started and then you will be asked to enter the Google account credentials as well as the Language preferences. Now, after this you need to turn Off the phone so that you can then enter into the recovery mode. The recovery mode can be entered by
  • After entering the recovery mode, you will have to choose the options Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now option. Please note that you will have to ensure that you don’t select any other options or else there is a high probability that you may end up bricking up the phone. Please note that its utmost important to follow this step or else you will have to face force close errors.

 

  • If you are unable to access the internet after the firmware update then you will have to re configure the APN Settings which can be done from the path Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names. Just in case if you forgot to backup then you will have to contact your service provider so that the settings can be configured manually as the settings vary from place and operator you are on.

So, in this way you have successfully applied the update of Gingerbread 2.3.5 XXJVT on your Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 phone.
