What is Rooting?

Advantages of Rooting:

Let’s proceed to the enxt page where we will see the procedure to root the HTC Desire smart phone.
Procedure to Root HTC Desire:
- First up you will have to download the Unrevoked modified USB Driver in your computer and then you will have to unzip the same to the path preferably to the desktop so that the same can be found easily.
- After downloading the drivers you will now need to turn Off the phone and boot the phone into the HBoot menu which you can do by holding the Volume download key and pressing the Power button.
- Now, you will be entering into the recovery mode where you will need to select the HBOOT USB in the menu which you can do by pressing the Volume down key four times and then select the same by pressing the Power button.
- You will now need to wait till the screen flashes through an “SD Checking” message before pressing buttons; otherwise, the phone will ignore key presses.
- After this all you need to do is to connect the phone to your Windows computer with the USB cable after which you will have to wait till the phone shows the message of “HBOOT USB PLUG” on the screen.
- Now, open the “Device Manager” which you can open from the path of “Right click on My Computer icon, select properties and then click on the Device Manager”. So now you will need to click on the “Other devices” wherein you should now be able to see the Android 1.0 device and then right click on the Android 1.0 icon and click on the “Update Driver Software” after which the phone will be refreshed.
- Click on the Browse option from My Computer for the driver software, browse and choose the Android USB Driver folder in your computer which you have placed on your desktop preferably.
- Now, in the status bar you will see the driver installation process and also in this process you may get to see some of the warnings, just select the same and in the status bar you will be seeing that the drivers are installed successfully. After completing this you will have to click on the “Close” option and then you need to make sure that the Android Bootloader interface is listed under the Android phone.
- So, now download the Unrevoked tool to your computer from the given link. Please note that if you are on the Windows based operating system you will have to “uninstall HTC Sync or any other program that might talk to the phone over USB (doubletwist, etc). - Now, all you need to do is to just plug in the phone to the computer using the USB cable which you got at the time of purchase.
- In your phone you will have to drag down the notification bar and then you will have to choose the option of “Charge Only” and then you need to select the option of “Remember this”.
- After this you need to ensure that the USB Debugging in your device is enabled. You can check from the path of Menu > Settings > Applications > Development and check whether USB debugging option is selected or not.
- Now you will have to run the re flash application which you have downloaded and after which the unrevoked will be running the processes and then all you need to do is to just follow the instructions which are given and that’s it after following the onscreen instructions the phone will be rooted successfully.
